Kids’ Activities at Story Garden

Little festival-goers have plenty to look forward to at Story Garden! Head to Lawson’s children’s bookshop for a morning of stories, creativity and hands-on fun, with special author readings and activities followed by face painting, a free scavenger hunt and play dough in the garden.
Wildlife Art Competition
Submit your artwork in children (age 7-12) or teen category (age 13-17) and you could win:
- First prize $75 voucher for Story Garden (children) or RoseyRavelston bookshops (teens) in Lawson
- Second and third prize art supply vouchers donated by ColourArt
All entrants will have their artworks on display in an exhibition at the Love Lawson Festival on 17 October.

Join author + Story Garden co-owner Sharon Baldwin for a reading of her book What Is It? Plus a fun painting activity!
11.30am - 2.30pm
Face painting + scavenger hunt and play dough
Throughout the day we’ll have a free scavenger hunt and play dough table in the garden. Face painting available for $5
Wildlife Art Competition Rules
Artwork Guidelines:
- All artworks must be A4 sized and depict native Australian wildlife, preferably animals found in the Blue Mountains.
- Drawing, painting, collage – any 2D visual medium is acceptable.
- You may submit one artwork only.
- Artworks must be wholly original and created without the use of generative AI.
Entrants must live in the Blue Mountains LGA and may enter in one of two categories: Children (ages 7-12) or Teens (ages 13-17)
ALL ENTRIES: Please include the following information:
- Artist’s name and age
- Artist’s address
- Name of parent or guardian
- Email address and phone number for parent or guardian
- A few sentences ( around 25 words) explaining why you chose the wildlife depicted (such as a connection to your family or local park where you saw that creature.)
ENTRY FEE: $10 Payable on submission of artwork
TO SUBMIT: Please drop your artwork off at Story Garden bookshop – 1 Badgery Crescent in Lawson during business hours (Wed-Sun 10am-5pm).

Story Garden
Story Garden is the creation of Blue Mountains locals Sharon Baldwin and Naomi Crew, and is located in Lawson, NSW. Nestled within Rosey Ravelston’s Bookstore, Story Garden is a dedicated children’s bookshop and workshop space specialising in new and pre-loved books, toys and creative materials.
They offer a beautiful selection of quality children’s books, alongside thoughtful gift options, toys and craft materials — with a focus on supporting local makers and small Australian publishers wherever possible. Every item in store is chosen with care, with the aim of providing the Blue Mountains community with quality, affordable gift options.
Sharon and Naomi first collaborated in 2024 while working on Naomi’s first picture book, Bowers of Blue. Sharon, who runs local publishing company Loose Parts Press, had admired Naomi’s artwork within the community and was keen for the opportunity to work together. That first project grew into an ongoing creative collaboration, leading to a second picture book, Your Mind is a Magical Thing, a series of fun community events and now Story Garden.
